Description
A very rare and hard to find Smiths 6B issued in 1967 to the British Royal Air Force R.A.F.
British watchmaker Smiths had the M.O.D contract to supply wristwatches to the Ministry of Defence between 1967 and 1970. Watches were issued for use of the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force, the latter 2 being the hardest to find.
This Smiths 6B is in superb original condition. It comes with the black leather strap that was present when the previous owner bought it a military fair in the early 1980’s. I have chosen to leave this on the watch but a new nylon Nato band will also be supplied.
The watch is superb condition and has been fully serviced by Simon Freese Watchmakers of Essex on 05/08/2022. 12 months mechanical warranty is in place from that date. Everything on this piece is original and the dial and hands are in superb condition. Both have aged with a lovely vanilla patina.
The 60466E movement has the correct year stamp for 1967, often movements are changed in Smiths W10’s/6B’s, so it is refreshing to see the original movement still in place.
The 35mm case is still sharp and looks in very good condition with only a few small marks commensurate with age. Fixed lugs are 17mm.
This a rare military watch and is not to be confused with Smiths W10s that were issued to the British Army in much higher numbers.
The service ticket is included to transfer the remaining warranty.
A brand new hand made leather travel case is also supplied for safe keeping.
Points to consider: Rare Smiths 6B, 100% original, superb condition and patina, serviced with warranty, comes with a leather travel case.
