Description
A superb example of an Omega HS^8 issued to the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm for pilot use.
HS relates to Hydrographic Survey, and 8 denotes wristwatch. The watch was issued circa 1943 so will have seen use in World War 2 by pilots responsible for delivery of the Navy’s air power. A similar 6b/159 was also issued directly to the RAF, but these were in far greater numbers making the HS^8 models somewhat rarer. There are subtle differences making this a firm favourite with military collectors.
The case is plated with a snap on steel back, and this example is still in superb condition showing only small signs of wear. The dial is the star of the show here as the track and numerals are often very shaded when these come to market. The dial is nice and white and the original blue steel hands are still clear to read. The case is is 33mm and the lugs are 18mm with removal bars.
The 30T2 movement is very clean and is running well, keeping very good time. The watch is sold with 6 months mechanical warranty.
Overall a very nice and hard to find Omega HS^8. Comes on new green Nato band as seen.
Points to consider: Very good case, superb original dial and hands, clean 30T2 movement with warranty.
